Time Card Calculator

Enter each day's start and end time. Add breaks if you took them. Your weekly total appears as you type.

Overtime optional

Overtime thresholds and multipliers differ by country, state and contract. Enter the figures that apply where you are — this page does not assume any. Leave either field blank and every hour is counted as regular time.

How this calculator counts your hours

Three things decide the number you get. Most time card calculators leave all three unstated — so if your total disagrees with payroll, you have no way to tell why. Here they are up front.

1 Rounding

By default this calculator counts to the exact minute — nothing is dropped. 7 hours 58 minutes is 7:58, not 8:00.

If you need payroll-style rounding, pick a rule above. Rounding is to the nearest step and is applied per day, after breaks are subtracted — so a week of five short days doesn't get rounded five times into a bigger number.

Example 8:53 → 9:00 at 15 min (nearest) · 8:53 → 8:50 at 10 min · 8:53 → 8:55 at 5 min

2 Overnight shifts

If the end time is earlier than the start time on the same row, the shift is read as crossing midnight and counted as an overnight span — not as a negative number, and not as zero.

Example 10:00 PM → 6:00 AM = 8:00, minus break

3 Decimal hours

Decimal hours are the weekly total converted once at the end — not the sum of each day's rounded decimal. This is why a week can show 37:30 and 37.50 together without drift.

Conversion minutes ÷ 60 · 15 min = 0.25 h · 30 min = 0.50 h · 45 min = 0.75 h

This page runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, and no hours are stored anywhere but this tab. Reloading clears them. See the privacy policy for what that means in detail.

Time card calculator questions

Is this time card calculator free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial, and no paywall. It's a single page that runs in your browser — see about this site for how it is paid for.

How do I calculate my work hours for the week?

Enter a start and end time for each day you worked. The weekly total adds up as you type. Subtract unpaid breaks by putting the minutes in the Break column.

Can it handle a night shift or a shift that goes past midnight?

Yes. Enter the clock-in time and the clock-out time; if the out time is earlier than the in time, the calculator treats it as an overnight span and counts forward past midnight.

What about a work clock calculator or a time punch clock?

Same idea, same maths. Whether you call it a time card calculator, a work clock calculator, or a time punch clock calculator, you're converting punched start and end times into a weekly total — the only things that change are the rounding rule and the break handling, both of which are set above. If a term on this page reads wrong to you, the contact page is the place to say so.

How do I convert my hours to decimal for payroll?

Divide the minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 minutes is 0.50, and 45 minutes is 0.75. This calculator does it for you and shows both forms side by side.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The inputs are sized for thumbs and the four columns fold into a compact row on narrow screens.

Can I print or copy the result?

Use “Copy summary” to put the totals on your clipboard as plain text, or print the page from your browser — the layout prints cleanly.
